Selline korralik ronimisrada, ühe ringi peale tuli 180m+.

Weekend behind the mountain.

My Lapierre is still in maintenance — some bearings needed replacing on the frame, as it's already been ridden hard. So the solution was to go with my hardtail Cannondale.

The forecast promised extremely hot weather for the weekend — so hot that it would go over 40 degrees. I knew it was going to be painful, though I hoped that maybe my body had gotten a bit used to the heat, since last week I spent many hours riding in hot weather.

On Saturday, the course check — very loose, dry, lots of rocks. A proper climbing course, with 180m+ of elevation gain per lap. The descents were fun, but with a hardtail I managed to hit the rear wheel quite hard on the rocks a couple of times — pingggg. So I ended up choosing slightly smoother lines over the rocks than I would have with a full-suspension bike. But on this track, the biggest factor in winning is definitely the climbing.

Sunday at the start — the weather was already cooking by the time our race began. I went without glasses from the start to get at least a bit more airflow. I decided to start a bit slower, but later couldn't quite find my usual rhythm — it was like I had a brake on. Later I saw that my body just didn’t let my heart rate climb too high, probably to avoid overheating completely. But hey, I finished and even got fifth place. We had five laps in total, and for such a short distance (22 km), there was 900m of elevation gain. And I managed to keep the bike in one piece too.

Thanks to everyone who cheered me on!
